VMAN Magazine’s promotion just sent us these photos from their new cover – with cover boy Stephen Dorff. Dorff is in Sofia Coppola’s new movie, Somewhere, and he’s getting a lot of attention and awards hype because everyone says this is his big comeback role, his re-introduction to A-List Actordom. I’ve said it before – I think Somewhere looks really good, and I’m very happy to see Dorff have a comeback, because the boy is good looking and really, really hot, albeit in a slightly sleazy way (that I love).
So… here’s the question: When you’re attempting your comeback, you’re hoping to parlay this buzz into something bigger in your career, is this the right time to take off your clothes for a Mario Testino photo shoot? Granted, his body is… um… in a word, DONGTASTIC. No, “Hot”. He’s very hot. And steamy. And gorgeous. So… is this a good idea? Or is it totally cornball and cheesy?
Here are a few excerpts from the piece:
STEPHEN DORFF, the 37-year-old rebel actor and star of the forthcoming, much-hyped movie directed by Sofia Coppola called “Somewhere.” VMAN’s cover and inside spread features Dorff with a body rivaling a teenage athlete. Dorff says he owes Coppola for the opportunity to renew his interest in the (acting) craft and continue to discover his art. His mother died of brain cancer one year and one day before Sofia offered him the coveted role.
He’s been labeled everything from a child prodigy to a Hollywood bad boy, but after his starring role in the film “Somewhere,” Stephen Dorff’s getting comfortable with a new moniker: Leading Man.
“This isn’t Stephen’s comeback. It’s his rediscovery.” – Sofia Coppola
“I learned how to grow up.” – Stephen Dorff
[From VMAN]
Yes, he’s so “grown up” that he’s making a move that even Zac Efron would be like “um, that’s kind of cheap.” Not that I’m complaining. I both love and hate this photo shoot. But I feel strongly about it, so I guess that’s something.
