We haven’t heard much about annoying couple Heidi and Spencer of The Hills lately, but they’re determined to change that. They never made their Mexican wedding official in the States despite pledging to do so, and now they need to pull something fast to get headlines. The boring blond pair is said to be planning their scripted breakup in an attempt to meet their contractual agreements with a tabloid. The whole thing was planned long ago, according to Star, and they’re said to be earning $200,000 for all these non-stories about them:

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have split! The twist is that the separation is right on schedule: the paid have a $200,000 deal with a tabloid for four cover stories and they have already delivered three, including their fake elopement. The last one, says a friend of the couple’s, will detail and upcoming – and totally planned – breakup. “The actual story has been written for weeks,” the friend reveals. Of course, a rep for the couple denies it completely, but the friend says not to worry: “They’ll get back together.” Assuming the price is right, that is.

Heidi and Spencer were just photographed slobbering all over each other for the paparazzi so they’re either trying to build up a portfolio for the tabloids to use when they run this eventual story or want to counter the breakup rumors. I would bet it’s the former and that they do have a breakup deal in the works. There were rumors last year that Heidi was going to fake a pregnancy for publicity and she may have done that, but like a real wedding the commitment luckily proved too much for her.

What’s next for these two if they break up? Will they fade into obscurity after failed attempts to strike out on their own? Their tired brand of of vapid storebought beauty only goes so far. Surely they want their own reality show deal, either together or separately. At least if they break up we may be rid of them temporarily, although like every other stunt they pull it’s just for show.
