Gerald McCullouch

Boy, CSI star Gerald McCullouch has some really good or really bad luck, depending on how you view things. The actor was robbed at gunpoint in Atlanta eight years ago. And now he’s been attacked by a kitchen knife-wielding assailant in New York. McCullouch was riding the subway from JFK when the man tried to steal his laptop. Instead of just taking it, he fought the attacker, who then pulled out the giant knife.

Gerald McCullouch found himself caught in a real-life crime investigation when he was recently attacked on a New York City subway by a knife-wielding mugger who attempted to steal his laptop.

McCullouch, 41, told the New York Daily News that the attacker tried to snatch his computer “and dash out the door,” but the actor, who trains as a boxer, fought back by hitting the man. His attacker then pulled out a kitchen knife. “This thing must have had a blade 10 inches long,” McCullouch said. “The other passengers started running out the door and into the next car.”

The actor, who was not injured in the attack, said police arrived on the scene. A 39-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon, robbery and assault.

According to the Daily News, the man tried to stab McCullouch but failed – possibly thanks to the actor’s leather jacket.

“I still had my headphones on with music blaring. I yelled at the top of my lungs, ‘Get the [bleep] away from me!’ That’s when the knife came down into my back. I don’t know whether he lost his grip or what, but the blade didn’t penetrate my leather jacket.

“We were in each other’s face. I think I punched him again as the doors closed and the train started leaving the station. I’m watching MTA workers on the platform looking in. I thought, ‘Great, now I’m alone in this car with him.’

“The train was halfway out of the station when it stopped. I was saying stupid, cocky stuff, like ‘You are [bleeped] buddy!’ He came at me again with the knife. But the other passengers had told a conductor, ‘A guy’s getting stabbed in there,’ so the conductor came in and got me into the next car. Then about 10 cops jumped on the train and got the guy handcuffed on the floor. I told them the guy had a knife. They found it hidden under a seat or something.”

It sounds like quite the fight. It’s a good thing McCullouch is a boxer. He noted that the police think the man they arrested might be the same person who stabbed two cops. Though New York City is a lot safer than it used to be, there’s obviously still crazy, demented criminals out there. This is one of those stories that turned out well but could just as easily have had a tragic ending. Luckily no one was hurt, and from McCullouch’s description the cops were on the scene quickly.
