It’s been a year filled with highs and lows, but now Melanie Brown’s life is sailing into calmer waters, with new husband Stephen Belafonte by her side.

In her frankest interview ever, the Spice Girl has opened her heart to HELLO!, talking intimately about her relationship, their secret wedding, and her hopes for the future – including her wish that Angel Iris, her four-month-old baby by film star Eddie Murphy, will get to know her father.

Speaking during a family holiday in Las Vegas, the exclusive interview, published on Tuesday August 21, reveals a remarkably composed and contented Mel B, happily posing for a series of stunning colour photos with her husband and her two daughters, Angel and eight-year-old Phoenix Chi.

Speaking for the first time about her new love, the Leeds-born performer recalls how she fell for the man she calls “her best buddy” and talks about film producer Stephen’s relationship with his three-year-old, Gisele. “When you see a man around his daughter and they’re so hands on… it’s just gorgeous,” she says.

Looking radiant and trim, the singer describes how Stephen’s proposal – two months after Angel’s birth – took her by surprise. “I took one big, deep breath and said, ‘Yes’,” she recalls, “as well as going, ‘Thank you, God! Don’t let me down a third time’.”

The famously feisty mother of two also reveals how she is putting the difficulties of her relationship with Angel’s father behind her: “He gave me the best gift ever, which is a beautiful, healthy baby,” she says. “How can I be mad at that?”

Spice Girl Melanie Brown and her husband of two months, music producer Stephen Belafonte, hope to have more children – in addition to the three they already have between them.

“Yeah, I’d like to, of course,” Brown, 32, told Larry King on his CNN program Thursday, in response to his asking her about having more kids.

Besides 4-month-old daughter Angel Iris, whose father is Eddie Murphy (from whom Brown is seeking “reasonable” child support, it was said on the King show), Brown is the mother of daughter Phoenix Chi, 8, from her marriage to dancer Jimmy Gulzar.

Belafonte also has a daughter, Giselle, 3, from a previous relationship.

As for the couple’s June 6 marriage in Las Vegas, which was not revealed publicly until this week, Brown said, “It’s very, very private. It’s been private for nearly two months now. We wanted it to be a private thing right now … a commitment just for me and him.”

The couple intend to hold another ceremony later this year for friends and family members, she said.

Likely not to be on the guest list: Murphy. Speaking about him, Brown said, “I think he’s been extremely disrespectful, and I don’t think anyone should be allowed to get away with saying what he said whilst I was pregnant.”

Melanie Brown will appear on Larry King Live on Wednesday, Aug. 8, to discuss her paternity battle with ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy.

The Spice Girl, who maintains Eddie has yet to pay “one penny of child support,” filed a lawsuit last Wednesday to legally establish paternity for their daughter Angel Iris Murphy Brown, 4 months.

A DNA test in June confirmed the Oscar nominee to be the father of Angel, a claim he questioned on Dutch TV in December.

Just two days after the filing, Eddie’s rep released a statement disputing Scary Spice’s allegations.

“[Eddie] acknowledges paternity of the child Angel, and has paid child support to Ms. Brown as well as covering the expenses of her pregnancy.”

Mel will be joined by her attorney Gloria Allred on the live segment, which will be broadcast during the front half of the program.

Larry King Live airs at 9 p.m. EST on CNN.

Speaking at a press conference last week, Melanie Brown’s message was clear – she and Eddie Murphy planned to start a family together. The actor and comedian begs to differ, however.

“Mr Murphy and Ms Brown dated very briefly and never made any plans of any sort,” says an official release, issued after the former Spice Girl insisted her four-month-old daughter Angel Iris “will always know that she was planned and wanted by the both of us”.

The statement, which also confirms that Eddie acknowledges he is Angel’s dad and is paying child support, was issued in response to remarks made by Mel as she filed paternity papers. It also appears to represent an attempt by the American star – who is now engaged to producer Tracey Edmonds – to draw a line under the subject.

“Mr Murphy views this as a private matter and as such will not be making any further comments about it,” the statement concludes.

While American comedian Eddie Murphy prepares to wed his fiancée Tracey Edmonds, his former wife Nicole Murphy and Melanie Brown – the mother of his new daughter – have been enjoying a girls lunch out. The pair were spotted together at exclusive Beverly Hills eatery The Ivy on Thursday, accompanied by the Spice Girl’s baby Angel and the youngest of Nicole’s five children with Eddie, five-year-old Bella Zahra.

And according to onlookers there was plenty of laughter and conversation shared during the meal, with Eddie’s exes seeming “really friendly towards one another”. Former model Nicole’s 12-year marriage to the Dreamgirls actor ended in August 2006, and he now pays child support for their son and four girls – something Mel B is set to pursue through the courts for her own daughter by the screen star, four-month-old Angel.

The day before their lunch appointment, Melanie had held a press conference with her power lawyer Gloria Allred to announce she had filed a Superior Court petition to seek sole custody of Angel and “reasonable” child support from Eddie.

The four-month old baby that Melanie Brown had with Eddie Murphy was planned and “wanted by both of us,” the ex-Spice Girl charged today. Now Mel, 32, is planning to take Eddie to court to have him legally declared the father of little Angel Iris Murphy Brown.

“I am speaking out today because I recognize that there are millions of single mothers and their children who don’t have a voice, who also wish for the fathers of their children to participate and share the responsibility for their children’s lives,” she said at a press conference at the LA office of her lawyer, Gloria Allred.

“Those children have a right to know their fathers and I call on those fathers to ignore the poor role model that Eddie has been and set a better example for their children.”

Allred said Eddie, 46, took a DNA test which confirmed he is Angel’s father when the child was 11 weeks old. But she said he has made no attempt to visit her and not paid a penny in child support.

“He has been generous to others but not to his own child,” added Allred. “He reportedly just gave $100,000 to charity and bought a big diamond ring for his new fiancée (Tracey Edmonds). It Is nice to be generous to others, but what about his own baby?

“He appears to have abandoned his little Angel, physically, emotionally and financially.”
