There’s a new chapter in the ongoing drama in the aftermath of Anna Nicole Smith’s death.

Attorney Debra Opri, who had represented former Smith lover Larry Birkhead until they parted ways last March, filed a defamation lawsuit against Birkhead Monday in an L.A. court.

“After I chose to terminate our legal relationship, Larry Birkhead began a malicious and relentless media campaign to discredit me and to destroy my reputation,” Opri said in a statement announcing the lawsuit.

Birkhead, 34, the father of Smith’s daughter, Dannielynn, has been locked in a legal battle with Opri over $620,000 in legal fees she says he owes her. Their feud heated up recently after claims in journalist Rita Cosby’s book Blonde Ambition quoted sources saying Opri had been concerned that Birkhead didn’t even know how to childhood proof his home prior to winning custody of his daughter.

Responding to the allegations last month, Birkhead told Us: “Every source that says something negative about me in that book is either in a fight with me or going to court with me.”

Opri’s statement Monday addressed the controversy over the Cosby book, stating, “It is clear now that Mr. Birkhead’s attempts to discredit me concerned what I knew and what might be exposed publicly…and not a legal bill. With the recent release of the Rita Cosby book: ‘Blonde Ambition,’ Mr. Birkhead’s attacks have escalated to include false and malicious allegations that I was a source for the book.

“My message today to Larry Birkhead is… I have had enough.”

Birkhead couldn’t be reached for comment.

Larry Birkhead, former boyfriend of the late Anna Nicole Smith and father to her baby girl, Dannielynn, has certainly learned a lot of business skills from Anna’s former lawyer and alleged paramour Howard K Stern. And now Larry is teaching Howard a few things about a much more important topic: hair care.

During Dannielynn’s first birthday party in Louisville, Ken., Larry introduced Howard to his stylist, Gregg Giannillo, who counts a number of celebs as clients. Shortly after the introduction, Gregg made sure the former foes were ready for their closeup!

“The one thing that Larry cares about more than fame and fortune is his hair,” a source tells OK!.

Since the tragic death of Anna Nicole Smith on Feb. 8, Larry Birkhead has appeared to be both her grief-stricken ex-lover and a devoted dad to their daughter, Dannielynn. But in an explosive book titled, Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith’s Death, MSNBC journalist Rita Cosby claims that Larry has repeatedly lied about the role he played in Anna Nicole’s life!

According to Cosby’s book, Larry and his supposed archrival, Anna Nicole’s attorney and companion Howard K. Stern, have been secretly plotting to divide the money and property Anna Nicole left behind, with Howard promising Larry that he “would take care of [him] the way [he] took care of Anna,” though Howard’s lawyer strongly denies that.

In an exclusive interview with Life & Style, Larry firmly denies the book’s allegations. “It’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard,” he says. Still, if some of the allegations prove true, Larry will have bigger concerns than Cosby — he could lose custody!

Will these accusations prove to be true? Or are they malicious lies made up to sell a book? Will these allegations affect Larry’s custody battle over Dannielynn? Check out the new issue of Life & Style, on newsstands now, for all the details!

Larry Birkhead has gone on the defensive. Following OK!’s latest cover story about the new book by TV journalist Rita Cosby that alleges he had a sexual encounter with former foe Howard K. Stern, the photographer and father of Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter Dannielynn went on CNN last night to try to quash the rumors. However, all he may have done is open himself up to further scrutiny.

While Larry claimed, “I don’t want to fight for money… If I wanted to be greedy and fight for money, I could have,” and that “my goal in this is to protect my daughter,” OK!’s experience with Larry has been a bit different, including repeated requests to the editorial staff to make himself look more appealing to the reader and to write a story denying rumors about his sexual preference. Larry also requested that OK! arrange for him to have designer suits to wear to the Kentucky Derby.

OK! has also witnessed Larry’s selfish behavior firsthand. During the magazine’s first shoot with Dannielynn and Larry, he appeared more concerned with his hair than the baby. Afterward, while going through the photographs, Larry preferred several shots where Dannielynn was not looking into the camera or not looking her best because he thought he looked better in them. Of note is the fact that, in some of these situations, Dannielynn seemed to be looking off at Howard’s more familiar face. Larry also seemed to be using Dannielynn almost like a prop, willing to pass Dannielynn off rather quickly to Howard once the cameras stopped rolling.

For all the details on Larry Birkhead’s double dealing, check out the next issue of OK!
