Kate Hudson has been criticized in the past for jumping into super serious relationships too quickly and scaring off guys. Kate seems to have realized this herself – she says that her current goal is to wait as long as possible before she gets into another relationship. The way she phrases it is kind of cute, as though it’s something that might happen to her, or like she has no control over it. But the ultimate point is clear: she realizes you can learn a lot about yourself when you’re single.
Kate Hudson may be “a hot ticket” in the dating world, according to her good friend, designer Stella McCartney, but the actress says she’s in no rush to jump into a relationship.
“I’m actually enjoying being single right now because I really never have been,” Hudson – who’s dated Lance Armstrong and Owen Wilson – tells InStyle magazine for its January issue.
“I feel good in relationships,” says the 29-year-old actress. “I enjoy them, so I feel my best when I’m in something solid. But it’s also the first time I’ve ever taken a step back and gotten a new perspective.”
“So,” concludes Hudson, “I’ve made a conscious decision to try to stay single as long as possible.”
McCartney, who interviewed Hudson for the magazine, chimes in, joking, “What’s it been – all of two weeks? Congratulations!”
“Exactly,” quips Hudson, who McCartney says has “always been in demand.”

Kate’s gorgeous with a bubbly, ebullient nature. I’m not at all surprised that she’s “always been in demand.” It sounds like she realizes she can learn a lot about herself and have a good time by staying single for a bit. And it’s probably less confusing for her son if he doesn’t have men bouncing in and out of his life. Nonetheless, Kate’s explanation for why she prefers being in a relationship makes perfect sense. Hopefully she can take some time for herself, and then get into a relationship that works even better for her.

What’s the best way for singles to meet? Through friends and family! And, Star has learned exclusively, that’s exactly how Kate Hudson met her latest squeeze, funnyman Dax Shepard, 32, who’s best known for playing a goofball on Ashton Kutcher’s MTV show Punk’d. So who was the matchmaker? Actor Kurt Russell, Kate’s mom Goldie Hawn’s longtime love.
PARENTAL GUIDANCE
Kurt, who’s a father figure to Kate, had been worried about her since she divorced Chris Robinson and pulled the plug on her relationship with Owen Wilson. “Kurt promised Kate it would get better, that happiness was around the corner. It looks like he was right,” a source tells Star. “Kate is delighted! It’s summer love at its best, and she’s thrilled to be with someone who is making her heart beat faster,” adds the source.
MATCH GAME
Kurt first met Shepard a few months ago and instantly thought he’d be a terrific match for Kate, the source tells Star. “Kurt took a liking to Dax because he’s a good ol’ boy from the Midwest who Kurt thinks is trustworthy and reliable,” says the source. On top of that, Dax, like Kurt, is a sports fan and loves playing baseball.
Kurt introduced Dax to Kate at a barbecue dinner near Zuma Beach in late June, just one month after Kate dumped Owen. “Kate and Dax bonded immediately because Dax made her laugh,” says the source. And now that Kate has cast Dax in a short film she’s making for Glamour magazine’s Reel Moments series, the relationship has heated up! “Kate liked his energy, and he brought a lot of enthusiasm and fresh ideas,” says the source. “Let’s just say Dax is the opposite of Owen. He’s down to earth and sincere. He’s a keeper.”

Kate Hudson glams it up as the cover girl of September’s Harper’s Bazaar fall fashion issue. The 28-year-old actress and single mom talked to the mag about getting back on the dating scene (it looks like that’s going well), understanding men and her love of lingerie. Read on for excerpts:
On her outlook on men:
“As primal beings, men are not supposed to be monogamous. When people ask, ‘Do you believe in monogamy?’ Well, of course that’s what you want. But part of what I love about men is that it’s hard for them to be monogamous. Women, I think, need to spend more time understanding men than changing men. And vice versa.”
On dating post-kids
“Dating becomes very different. You realize after you have had children that you’ll never love anything more than your child. That is your love. That is your life. So it makes the new sort of single-mom dating process very different. It’s like growing up. It’s adult.”
On keeping up with her ex, Chris Robinson:
“I mean, [divorce is] really, really hard. And for both Chris and me, our main focus is, and was, Ryder. And happy parents, happy baby…And therefore, I love Chris to pieces. He’s my first huge love. I spent seven years with Chris. I was 20 when I met him. We still talk everyday. He still cracks me up. And Ryder feels that.”
On if she’ll ever remarry:
“I don’t know. I checked that off my list of to-dos. And I can check off divorce…The idea of marriage, I realize now, no longer holds the answer to anything.”
On her obsession with lingerie:
“I am totally obsessed with lingerie. How often I wear it is not often enough…We like La Perla. They made great things for small-breasted women.”

Kate Hudson has already taken her new boyfriend home to meet the parents. Nighttime barbecues! Jet-skiing! Lakeside PDA! It was all part of the fun during Hudson’s weeklong vacation with Dax Shepard.
On July 30, the two lovebirds – who were first photographed together July 13 – flew on a private jet to Muskoka, Canada, where Kurt Russell and mom Goldie Hawn own a home.
Most of the Hudson/Hawn/Russell clan was there (only her brother Oliver and his wife, Erinn, were absent), but Shepard wasn’t shy about socializing.
“Dax fit right in,” says a source, adding that the Employee of the Month actor, 32, played tennis with Hudson’s younger brothers Wyatt and Boston, and helped teach her 3-year-old son, Ryder, how to fish.
“One day, all the guys took a boat to an outdoor market and ate hot dogs. Dax and Kurt were laughing like they had known each other for years,” says the source.
Indeed, both actors appear in the short film Hudson recently directed for Glamour magazine.
Despite the ease with which Shepard got along with his new flame’s family, pals of Hudson, 28 (who split from actor Owen Wilson, 38, in May), wonder what she sees in him.
“Everyone thinks it’s a strange choice for her. Dax is wild and weird,” says one source close to the star.
One reason for her appeal? Admits the pal: “He makes her laugh.”
