At the Fourth Annual Black Ball Concert for Keep a Child Alive, Gwen Stefani proved that even celebrities are sometimes just giddy fans.

As the “HollaBack” girl took the stage in a short black dress and white blouse to sing with KCA co-founder Alicia Keys, she admitted to being nervous during the dinner that preceded the concert. “I had to sit next to David Bowie!” hollered Gwen, who says she listens to the music legend’s songs every night said. “I was so scared I may have to take him off my iPod now.”

After taking a sip of Alicia’s water, Gwen composed herself and the pair sang U2’s “Sunday, Bloody Sunday.”

Gwen Stefani played Malaysia as a cover girl. Actually, make that a covered girl.

The singer, 37, revealed next to no skin while performing Tuesday before some 7,000 cheering fans at an indoor stadium.

The new dress code followed some fears expressed by Islamic critics that Stefani’s revealing concert costumes might corrupt the country’s youth, the Associated Press reports.

Bursting onto the stage in a short-sleeved shirt and black-and-white striped hot pants suit over a black leotard (with black gloves up to her elbows), Stefani announced, “I am very inspired tonight.”

What she was inspired to do was, in fact, put on a fashion show, donning a different outfit for every song – among them: “The Sweet Escape,” “Rich Girl,” “Wind it Up” and “Hollaback Girl.” (Cameras were banned from the performance.)

Stefani’s vow of modestly came as a result of a charge by the 10,000-member National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students that her revealing outfits and cheeky performances clashed with traditional Islamic values.

The opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party also blamed her for promoting promiscuity and corrupting the nation’s youth.

Under Malaysian government rules, a female artist must be covered from her shoulders to her knees. Also prohibited: jumping, shouting or throwing of objects onstage or at the audience. Talent may also not hug or kiss, and their clothes must not carry obscene or drug-related images or messages.

Speaking to the local entertainment publication Galaxie, Stefani said she had adapted her act to Malaysia, which she termed a “major sacrifice.”

“I’ve been in the music industry for 20 years and this is the first time that I’m facing opposition from people who have misunderstood me,” she was quoted as saying – adding, “I’m not a bad girl.”

Calling herself “a geeky Orange County girl, a chola girl, a rasta girl and an English girl – all mixed together,” Gwen Stefani has no mixed feelings about one thing: producing a sibling for her 1-year-old son Kingston.

“Obviously I’m in a race to have another, but I don’t want to do it while on tour,” the singer, 37, tells InStyle for its September issue (on sale Friday). “But I can’t wait to get pregnant again. It’s so fun and consuming and romantic.”

Being a mom already, she admits, means “I definitely don’t get enough sleep, but I’d rather spend time with him. I’ve got this extra-fun, amazing, little guy who just wants to hang out with me.”

Before she hits the stage while on tour, Stefani sings Kingston lullabies like “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” as he falls asleep. “But he sings a lot to himself,” she says. “He’s just getting into music. He does the whole head-bouncing thing.”

Kingston’s being musical should come as little surprise. His dad is Stefani’s husband, rocker Gavin Rossdale. “I love him so much,” Stefani says of Kingston. “He’s the best thing that has ever happened to me.”

Rossdale, she also says, is “super into being a dad.” On his domestic prowess, Stefani says of her husband, “He’s a creative cook. He makes whatever I crave, even when nothing seems to be left in the fridge.”

And while Stefani may be in a rush to get pregnant again, there’s another aspect to life she wishes to put the brakes on: raunch.

“Everyone’s in such a rush to show they’re sexy,” she says. “Anyone can be sexy. We all have the same body parts. It’s pretty boring. Life’s not so short that you need to give it all away in five seconds. That was never my thing.”

Midway through an exhausting world tour promoting The Sweet Escape, Gwen Stefani is still going strong. The 37-year-old married mom and musician spoke to UK paper The Guardian about husband Gavin Rossdale, her neuroses and having son Kingston on the road with her. For more about Gwen’s opinions, from breast-feeding to returning to No Doubt, read on!

On her marriage to Gavin Rossdale:
“It’s one of those mad love affairs that you can’t live with and you can’t live without, and you just keep going and going. And time goes by and you get the rocky times then you get the intense love times, then you get the reward of having the baby. It’s just this ongoing saga. I’m interested to see what’s going to happen next, you know?”

On bringing 1-year-old son, Kingston, on tour:
“If I had to leave [Kingston] at home and not bring him with me everywhere then I wouldn’t do this. I know that’s not going to last, and he’s going to get more demanding and there will be school and stuff. But for now I get to do it all.”

On the decision to keep breast-feeding:
“I don’t know when I’m going to stop breast-feeding, I’ll just keep going while I can – like, he’s getting his teeth so it is a little bit scary. He’s bitten me a few times! [Breast-feeding] is just obviously really convenient with my lifestyle.”

On feeling neurotic and keeping in shape:
“I try not to be but I’m super-neurotic about diet. I’m neurotic about trying not to be neurotic! I’m like every other girl. I have to try really hard my whole life to try to be fit. And I’m super-vain. And I want to wear cute clothes. You know, I was chubby when I was a little girl. And I have all those issues everyone else has. But I try not to. And I’ve learnt over the years that it’s such a waste of time. And people like me whether I’m a little bit fatter or not.”

On plans to reunite with No Doubt:
“It would be ridiculous to say there was no tension. Because my solo career has been going on and on. It was never supposed to be this long.”

On what’s next:
“Make babies, make music. I’m on repeat mode.”
