The 36-year-old split from John’s father, Super Bowl-winning New England Patriots quarterback, and Gisele Bundchen’s current squeeze, Tom Brady, 30, in December before announcing her pregnancy a few weeks later, leaving many wondering how she will handle her new role as a single mom-to-be.

Most fathers shed tears of joy when their first child is born, but when actress Bridget Moynahan gave birth to a baby boy on August 23, father Tom Brady found himself crying tears of sadness instead.

As the NFL star and his parents headed for the exit of the maternity ward of St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California, around 9:45 p.m., his eyes welled up.

“I felt so bad for him because he was upset,” an eyewitness tells Us.

To put it mildly, this was likely not the way the New England Patriots quarterback, 30, envisioned his first days as a new dad.

Why the tears?

“Bridget wants nothing to do with Tom,” says one Moynahan source.

According to pals close to Moynahan, 36, Brady neglected his ex (whom he dumped in December after nearly three years of dating) for much of her pregnancy, instead choosing to romance his current squeeze, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, 27.

Inside the actress’ private suite, “the mood was very somber,” says a source. “Their parents gave them time alone to try and work things out, but Bridget is very bitter.”

Actress Bridget Moynahan gave birth to a baby boy today in Los Angeles. A rep for the actress tells Usmagazine.com that “both mother and baby are doing well.”

The baby’s father is New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who Moynahan dated for three years until their split in late 2006. Since the breakup, Brady has been seeing supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

When Six Degrees star Moynahan, 36, announced her pregnancy in February, Brady was allegedly surprised by the decision. A friend of Brady’s told Us, “He’s disappointed this is how she’s decided to play it. She announced it to make him look like a jerk.”

Meanwhile his official statement read, “Tom and his family are excited about the pregnancy, and want to thank everyone who has shown support.”
