Brad Pitt: “We’re Run Out of Every Major City”

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were mobbed in Toronto leaving the premiere of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Seasoned Toronto gossip columnist Lainey Lui (laineygossip.com) calls what unfolded “the biggest celebrity mob scene ever. Ever.”

After the screening, Jolie, 32, and Pitt were in a car together en route to the after-party when their car was swarmed. “The crowd was so thick anyway, from people downtown on a Saturday night. And then, they were spotted,” Lui says. “The crowd started to find out that it was Brad and Angelina. People who were driving down on other streets left their cars and ran to see them. Seven people jumped on their car.”

Pitt and Jolie’s vehicle tried to inch forward. “We saw all these people running. People were holding up their cellphones (to take photos). This woman appears out of nowhere, runs up with her child, and was pushing her child up against the (moving) car. The lady was like: ‘I want my baby to see Brad Pitt.’ ”

According to Lui, through it all, “Brad was yelling at the driver to drive, Angelina looked like a woman completely paralyzed. You could read her lips, and she kept saying, ‘Get back to the hotel.’ ”

Pitt talked about the experience the following day in an interview with USA Today. “We had to come back here,” he said, referring to the hotel. “We had to get under a garage. Nothing was cordoned off. There were no barriers.”

When the famous couple isn’t being inundated with fans, they’re being followed by the paparazzi.

“It’s impossible for us,” Pitt, 43, says. “We’re run out of every major city. There’s just too many paparazzi. There’s always cameras in the kids’ faces, yelling their names. Angie gets out of the car, and they take the camera down to the curb and shoot up (her skirt). It’s unbelievable…there’s a constant negotiation in how to survive and how to maintain a family life.”

The actor says that he can tell when the cameramen are lurking around even when he can’t see them.

“You develop radar. Like I know when there’s someone in the bushes 300 yards away shooting,” he says. “I know to recognize that feeling. (On the Canadian set), there was a guy in total camouflage, who commandoed his way on knee and elbow. And I know that feeling. It’s inexplicable, one of those instincts.”

Brad Pitt: We’re Going to Need a Bigger Bed

Brad Pitt says he and Angelina Jolie going to need a bigger bed – for their expanding brood.

“We’re not done,” Pitt, 43, quipped, acknowledging public interest in the family’s growth. “They say, ‘Any plans for a fifth?’ And I say, ‘And a sixth, and a seventh, and an eighth, and a ninth.’ That’s my answer.”

“We also made a 9-foot-wide bed” that fits him, Jolie, 32, and all four children, Pitt who is starring in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, told the Associated Press. “Just big enough. One more and we’ll have to go to 11 feet.”

The Jolie-Pitt clan already consists of four kids, all born in Asia or Africa: Maddox, 6, Pax, 3, Zahara, 2, and Shiloh, 1. And, while one parent works in front of the camera, the other takes time off to look after them.

“We just take turns and make sure we keep the family together,” Pitt said, adding in an interview with USA Today, “It’s impossible for us. We’re run out of every major city. There’s just too many paparazzi. There’s always cameras in the kids’ faces, yelling their names.”

Although he doesn’t pack a six-shooter like his latest screen character Jesse James, Pitt admits he’s concerned about “how to survive and how to maintain a family life.”

“I understand the essence of paranoia. I understand being hunted, to some degree. It’s rare, but there are imbalanced people out there. I’ve had break-ins in the house,” Pitt said, “I’ve had some of these abnormal incidents that can be a bit frightening.”

“It’s something that I want to be aware of and be cautious about, especially with the family, that everybody’s protected,” he told the AP.

The Assassination of Jesse James opens in limited release Friday and netted Pitt the best-actor award at the Venice Film Festival. The family’s current base is New York because he is shooting the Coen brothers’ flick Burn After Reading.

OK! Exclusive: George Opens Up About Brad

Good pals Brad Pitt and George Clooney have a lot in common. In addition to co-starring in three films (four, if you count the currently in-production Coen Brothers’ film Burn After Reading), they’ve both been named Sexiest Man Alive multiple times; they’re both superstars whose every move is closely watched by the media and public alike; they’ve both managed to carve out careers that allow them to make whatever films they want, whenever they want, wherever they want; and they both have movies at this year’s Toronto Film Festival, where OK! caught up with George to ask him if the two men ever feel the need to compete when it comes to filmmaking.“I don’t compete against my friends,” George, in a rare moment of seriousness, explained to OK!. “It always seems sort of strange. I couldn’t do the things Brad does, ever. So there’s no competition at all.” He paused before adding with a sly grin, “I do have some competition with Matt Damon.”

George also explained to OK! that it’s hard to shake the competitive spirit when awards season rolls around. “The interesting thing about awards season is: You get this feeling where you find yourself thinking, ‘Well, I’m helping the film,’ but at some point you’re actually campaigning the idea that you should compare art, and I always think that’s a dangerous place to go.” He brought up the example from a few years’ back when actor David Strathairn was nominated for Best Actor for his role in Good Night and Good Luck against front-runner, Capote’s Philip Seymour Hoffman. “Everyone was arguing who gave the better performance, but these were two very different roles — you can’t compare them! So, no, there’s never any competition, and you hope there never is between artists.”

Brad Pitt’s Decision to Leave Jen

In a new interview with V magazine, Brad Pitt claims he maintains a “deep friendship” with his ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, 38, and defends how he ended their four-and-a-half year marriage in January 2005. Among his bombshells: that he stifled his attraction to Angelina Jolie, 32, until after he and Aniston had ended the relationship.

“The most important thing about that time was for Jen and me to figure out if – how do I put it? – if we didn’t want to go on without any outside influence,” he tells the magazine of the last days of his marriage, which were marked by media reports of an affair with his Mr. and Mrs. Smith costar.

“Is this where we got off? Have we taken this as far as we wanted to go?” He concludes, “Those questions had to be answered before an attraction to Angie could be answered.”

Asked if he still approves of how he handled the split, Pitt, 43, saying that protecting all parties involved was most important to him, replies, “I don’t know how better to have handled it…The thing guiding me then was you don’t know how many days you have, and you need life to be everything you need it to be.”

Brad Opens Up About Celebrity

While promoting his latest flick The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford at the Venice Film Festival on Monday, Brad Pitt made some interesting comparisons between being a celebrity today and being a celebrity in the Wild West of the 19th century.

“[It’s] really quite similar, there’s just more of it today,” Brad, who stars as infamous outlaw Jesse James in the flick, explained. “People have asked me today about the celebrity angle and certainly that’s one aspect of the film; that’s not the main focus.”

Today, Brad is arguably one of the world’s biggest celebrities. So, maybe it was fitting for him to get cast as Wild West’s biggest celebrity. “But [Jesse James] was one of America’s biggest celebrities at that time, and the funny thing to me is that it doesn’t seem that different today as it was then, in the sense that a lot of it was manufactured, a lot of it was sensationalized, very little of it was based on truth and, even after his death, like we just saw with Anna Nicole Smith, the melee that ensues from it,” Pitt said.

Brad Pitt On Aging & Having More Kids

Brad Pitt thinks his looks are starting to go now that he’s turned 40. “One thing sucks, your face kind of goes,” the actor says in the October issue of Details. “Your body’s not quite working the same. But you earned it. You earned that, things falling apart.”

Pitt, who stars in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, also revealed his feelings on becoming a dad so quickly to his four children with Angelina Jolie. “Well, I had one kid, then two kids, then three kids. Two and a half years or so. Listen, I’ve always embraced extremes, so it doesn’t feel odd to me. There’s a couple weeks of finding your balance, and then it’s in stone.”

So will the be more little Jolie-Pitts? “We’re not done,” Brad confesses! After all, he loves the bonding between his big brood. “You just look at them and go, my daughter’s from Ethiopia, two sons from Asia, a daughter who’s born in Namibia — and they are brother and sister. They have the same dynamics I had growing up, and I… It pleases me so much.”

Another thing that makes Brad happy is his humanitarian work in Darfur with Not on Our Watch. It’s something that brought Angie and I together certainly — she’s absolute evidence for me of someone facilitating changes for the better.”

Brad Pitt: ‘We’re Ready’ for Fifth Child

Brad Pitt says that with four children, “sleep is non-existent” and some days fatherhood is a rollercoaster ride.

“It’s the most fun I have ever had and also the biggest pain in the ass I have ever experienced,” he told reporters at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday. “(But) I love it and I can’t recommend it any more highly.”

When asked by Italian state TV if he and partner Angelina Jolie were ready for a fifth child, Pitt replied: “Yeah, we’re ready.”

The couple arrived in Venice on Saturday with all four children in tow and headed for the exclusive Hotel Cipriani, on Giudecca island, a short boat ride from Venice.

While Pitt promoted his latest film, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, which is in competition for the festival’s Golden Lion top award, Jolie enjoyed ice cream and a stroll with their 2-year-old daughter Zahara and son, Maddox, 6.

Pitt, 43, who co-produced and stars as Jesse James in the film, said that having a family has also helped his career.

“It makes me much more efficient,” he says, “because that’s the main focus. It makes me feel when I do have time to work, I really do have to focus because there is a really short window to get something done. I am quite pleased by it all.”

On Sunday evening Jolie joined Pitt on the red carpet for the premiere of the film along with co-stars Casey Affleck and Sam Shepard.

Pitt wore a white tuxedo and Jolie wore a black lace gown and more than $2 million worth of Bvlgari jewelry. They signed autographs before heading into the screening, arm in arm.

Brad & Angelina Helicopter to the Hamptons

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie treated their kids to the quintessential New York City weekend, complete with a trip to a hot-dog cart and a carousel ride in Central Park. Then on Saturday night, it was all about helping a good cause: The pair took a helicopter to the Hamptons to host a dinner party raising money to help rebuild New Orleans.

Both dressed in white, Jolie, 32, and Pitt, 43, left Manhattan and flew into Westhampton for the event, after they were diverted from nearby East Hampton because of foggy conditions. From there, the couple ended up taking a cab to the home of Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, the married couple who co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival with Robert De Niro.

Christie Brinkley, Ellen Barkin and Jimmy Buffett were among the celeb guests, New York’s Daily News reports, and Pitt himself gave a speech on helping those affected by Katrina.

The more than 50 guests were served cocktails followed by dinner (a buffet of lamb, salmon and corn pudding), all under a giant tent decorated with black-and-white photos of everyday life in New Orleans.

The fund-raiser helped promote Pitt’s Make It Right project, which is aiming to rebuild areas of New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward with environmentally friendly homes.

Last week, Pitt was in New Orleans to give a tour of homes being built in cooperation with Global Green and the Home Depot Foundation. (See ThisOldHouse.com for more video from Pitt’s tour.)
